A lot of exultation was in news stories in the television channels, describing how despite the threats of the Skopjan state and its leader that the march of the Skopjan team in the Olympic Opening Ceremony of Beijing would be done under the sign ‘Macedonia’ and not ‘FYROM’ which is (improperly as we demonstrate in the matching blog) their official name, in the end they marched with their official name. The fact was described as ‘disorderly retreat’ and in some way a prevalence on the part of Greece.

Two things are the once requiring immediate attention and analysis: Primarily, the great promotion for IOC and their Greek-origin members M. Kyriakou and Nikolaou with the continually repeated phrase “what the Greek government didn’t do, was achieved by the IOC” without offering an explanation why it was deemed necessary for the IOC to pull strings so that something which is illegal according to international laws will not occur and why it is such a great success to uphold the law, fact which was mentioned by the minister of foreign affairs D. Bakogiannis (although the way she mentioned it implied other things as well, beyond the truth regarding the laws).

Secondarily, they only mentioned in passing the ‘compromise’ struck with the Skopjans who were promised that although their country name sign would read according to their official name but the announcement made as they enter the track would be the one they unlawfully claim. That is what the Greek government should have pressed and demanded not to have occur and ask for the official in writing explanation of the reason why in case of a different behavior by the other states and their media instead of pushing the Greek People to feel they have won because the law already in place to protect them has not broken.
