Recently, mainly the TV news reports are swarming with stories of the type of gang rapes, unexplainable (motivation-wise) assassinations of hapless tourists or citizens, beatings which again are presented as without motive or at least a logical motive and serious occurrences of police criminality or brutality against equally hapless Citizens.
This onslaught of such news must not be taken as several independent incidents but as one pattern: What is the general impression given us from all these news? Is it by chance or does it aim at something? We could try to say that this is some new wave of violence, but that is not valid if one looks at the logs of the Incident Report Books of Police precincts in all of Greece.
Why, then, is an image of uncontrollable violence and daily citizen and tourist peril in the streets of Greece projected so much?
In this part of the site the only thing we will telegraphically say is that it causes insecurity, anger, a sense of shame which leads to the well meaning and expected request for better and tighter policing which, however, opens the avenue for other political conditions.
