With the last events around the tearing of part of the Koran by a Greek police officer, we have an exacerbation of a phenomenon we have analyzed in quite older articles and editorials: that of social terrorism with erroneous attribution of characterization for an entire Nation, in this case the Hellenic one.
In particular, and regarding the incident with the Koran we will analyze the mass media campaign to alter common logic as well as the sense of righteousness that Greek Citizens have and express.
The mass media present that an unknown Syrian Muslim was keeping on his person, wrapped in napkins/ toilet paper/ tissue/ odd paper part of the Koran written in Arabic and possibly handwritten on a simple page (the description varies from channel to channel and from show to show). While examined by a Greek police officer to have his identification verified, the policeman, not being able to read it/ trying to open it/ trying to read it tore it a little/ by mistake/ a lot/ completely/ disrespectfully and possible stepped on it / defiled it while the Syrian was repeating the word ‘Koran, Koran.”
It was considered that the fact that the Syrian was repeating this word was enough to make the police officer stop his search or respect a paper which could have been anything, just basing himself on the word of an unknown immigrant/ illegal immigrant that the aforementioned paper was sacred. The entire Muslim community of (mainly illegal) immigrants was insulted by the incident (for which there is only oral testimony and no evidence that has at least been presented through the media) resulting in demonstrations, vandalisms and assorted threats to launch the Jihad if the entire Hellenic Police (El.As.) did not apologize for not trusting the word of a person they were still checking on for anything from terrorism to criminality.
We have shown in this website and in our articles than when the police doesn’t keep Human Rights, the Constitution and the Laws we stigmatize it, report it and often list the legal steps that must be taken. When the Law gives us the Right, we do it ourselves.
Therefore, in this case what the Syrian who received the action he calls atrocious/ offensive, was to follow the legal route and charge the policeman administratively and criminally, of course if he could prove his claims. The Law has foreseen for such occasions, even for the occasions of people with no resources/ funds, indigenous and foreign (legal and not), even funding them so they can defend their rights (the Poverty Legal Benefit). All those who present themselves as ‘protectors’ of the immigrants/ illegal immigrants who know or claim they know the Greek and International Legislation should help this man (if he was truly victimized by fanaticism/ religious racism), guiding him to follow the real avenues the Democratic and Christian State of Greece has foreseen for everyone, regardless of religion and nationality when Human Rights are at stake, on all occasions, including Hellenic Citizens (Human Rights supercede the Constitution in the Greek State, fact which is never mention by the mass media or the politicians or the legislators, including the Greek Law Society).
In essence, what they pushed the Syrian man himself as well as his peers to do with the excuse of this incident (if we assume it did occur) undermine much more his own self and put him and his community in a very unfavorable position in the society they hope to exist and co-exist: the demonstrations and the vandalisms only succeeded in accentuating in the Greeks (especially the people living in the afflicted areas and the victims of the vandalisms) that Muslim people are a social threat and a source of criminality. Also the fanaticism and anger over an incident which, if we assume it happened, has a lot of mitigating factors as we will note below, made harder the potential of adjustment for the Muslims and strengthened the negative / violent emotions that possibly drove them away from their native country.
Neither of the two sides that appear to be at conflict benefit from this situation. On the contrary they both offer themselves as tools and ready victims of the strategic moves of third parties.
What do we mean by this?
If we assume that the incident did happen, a big part of the responsibility for it is born by the Syrian man himself, just as it would be born by any person who carries something precious and venerable between or among things / places that cannot denote to ignorant people the importance/ veneration involved around this object. A sacred text has very specific elements that make it appear so in the eyes of anyone. Also, a sacred text is not the product of a simple copying upon paper. Just like the Bible, so does any sacred book have specific symbols. Any third party is not obliged to know anything beyond these symbols and they are not obliged to consider sacred a paper he/she cannot identify.
For example a Greek who has copied in Greek part of the Bible/ the New Testament/ the Sunday prayer upon a paper which on top of that he keeps wrapped in another paper typically destined for uses that are never associated with worship (paper with which we wipe excrement or stains) and despite his appeals to a Muslim officer in any country has his paper torn has only himself to blame, primarily for not safekeeping the paper he considers important and sacred in a manner that is not the same as the one in which we keep grocery lists and/or what we are going to throw in the nearest garbage bin.
But even if he had done all of the above right, in this era where the fear of terrorism and National security has given the right to make without permission any search in any airport and actually in other places (of the countries the mass media present to us as civilized and politically correct), and have it considered tolerable even when refusing Human Rights if the police officer arbitrarily feels that someone may potentially be a National threat or a likely terrorist (fact which is unacceptable, fascist but nevertheless respected by the mass media, the politicians and the lawmen who ‘defend’ the protection of man), the fact that the police officer did not believe or notice the appeals of the Syrian immigrant in relation to the Koran is probably unimportant.
At this point we must mention that in countries such as Britain, Germany and the USA (countries which politicians enforce Greeks to obey and copy on all socioeconomic levels), if the Syrian had displayed this behavior, they would have arrested him without giving him the right to an attorney, publicity and/or parley and would not even admit to third parties that he had ever existed from that point on.
From the side of the police officer there is this basic element: that of National security. If he had respected the appeal of the Syrian man and did not examine this document based only on the man’s word, and afterwards the Syrian with his document turned out to be part of a deadly terrorist attack/ violent act, the responsibility for those lives lost would lay solely on his shoulders and he would be rightfully accused / punished by society that he did not do his duty and he did not protect.
The lack of real evidence and names in the assorted stories also allows for suspicion that the incident was fabricated, designed to precisely achieve that which is taking place in our country at the moment: the sense of righteous anger on both sides, a sure ingredient for violent struggle/ clashes, while as we said earlier the incident could have easily been resolved in a fully civilized and democratic manner. Even humanitarian organizations could have taken up the task of the Syrian man’s legal defence/ offense if they were truly humanitarian and wanted to protect people on both sides.
Who then benefits from the situation, if not the immigrants or the indigenous Greeks or the police?
The true racists and fascists of all societies are the only ones who benefit, fact which is evident by their actions in the particular event as well as in their general social behavior. Whoever seeks the impoverishment of any social group and social stratum in a society, whoever amasses wealth through state measures such as taxation and benefits and project contracts, whoever has shown that he/she desires the exploitation of others towards his/her personal affluence (see flexible work day hours, mass let-offs, under-the-table hirings, use of National wealth/ liquidation of National wealth/ etc) is the one who truly fits the definition of the fascist and racist. Only such a person daily considers entire social groups as inferior and with the potential of full exploitation and objectification, exactly as the American Southerner land owners and the British colonizers of the 19th century considered Afro-americans and Hindu people respectively (and also the workers and the poor and the immigrants and so on).
Thus, therefore, with the occupation of common opinion and the division of the People as well as their undermining (since they do not truly allow immigrants to be absorbed regarding Greek society logic, not religion) on the one hand they lead society towards totalitarian regimes and the waiving of Democracy (see the extreme-right wing party LAOS) and on the other hand they pull attention away from great issues of social and economic nature that public opinion would focus on and the People’s stance would be yielded. We are talking about issues like the true identity of the Association of Industrialists (SEV), international agents such as the IMF (International Monetary Fund), the EU (European Union), the Stability and Growth Pact and the assorted ‘business agreements’ such as the contracts on the assorted gas pipe lines, the buying of the country’s ports, the funding of specific businesses and banks and many other issues-scandals which are created to empower further the real fascists exploiting the earth globally, and who wouldn’t be able to act freely with the attention of the public on them.
And here, finishing, we come to the reason all the mass media shout out and devote so much time in any show they hope can still affect the People (such as the news, talk shows and satiric shows like Al Tsantiri of L. Lazopoulos): on the one part to occupy the People as we described above (channel owners are either these same fascists or the representatives of these global/ international fascists) and on the other hand to undermine and weaken further the Greek identity, forcing them to pity or be ashamed of a situation they never caused (the arrival of the immigrants/ illegal immigrants did not occur on the initiative of the Greek People but with the initiative of the ship owners- slave traders who have the equipment and above-law status required to transfer such crows en masse and enforce the avoidance of deportation as the Law usually prescribes) but was actually socially and economically and fascistically imposed on them, since they were never asked when the governments of N.D. (middle right) and PASOK (socialist left) with the tolerance and cover of the KKE (Communist) and the church sought the influx of entire populations within the People’s state.
On the contrary, the People were saddled with the support/ sustenance and financial strengthening of these work-hands used at their staggering capacity in great industries and all sorts of corporations and NOT by the People as it is repeated by the media as a mantra. This sustenance came from the social welfare and insurance cashtills which the generations before 1992 had built for the support of the Greek people and not of passive groups (since the greatest percentage of immigrants/ illegal immigrants do not pay taxes) tantamount or multiple to the original greek pensioner population, resulting in the collapse of all the cashtills and the poverty of Greek Citizens.
This poverty is a breach of the Constitution as well as the Human Rights of the Greeks, just as such breach is the sense of insecurity Greeks have in the heart of Athens and elsewhere, the constant friction with people who cannot, due to these fabricated events, be absorbed into Greek society and the merciless and successive insult of the personality of the Greeks by the mass media and by specific presentators, in a country which rejected nazi racism and the brutality of religious persecution by Western-European Nazis. They project their own fascism and racism upon the Greek People as a National flaw despite the staggering evidence to the contrary.
No Citizen in any country enduring the same treatment should stand for or accept that for themselves.
